The majority of the plants are the Alida strain of tobacco, specially developed by Alida Olsson from Åhus in Skåne to flourish in southern Sweden’s rich soil.
The plants cultivated nowadays at the museum are descended from the seeds taken from her last crop in 1964. We also grow Burley and Adonis strains to show the variations in size and flowering.
If you’d like to try growing your own tobacco, you can buy seeds in our Museum Shop.
